Complete a Certificate II in Early Childhood Education and Care Pathway. In this program you will be introduced to the Early Childhood Education and Care sector and develop foundational skills and knowledge in early childhood learning and care practices.
Students will develop techniques to support children’s learning and development through positive interactions and play. There will be an emphasis on gaining workplace skills related to communication, numeracy and reading. Students will study principles of Work Health Safety within an early childhood setting.
This course is designed to provide learners with an educational pathway into the Certificate III in Early Childhood Education and Care. (Note: enrolment in the Cert III in Early Childhood Education and Care is the minimum educational level required to commence work in the early childhood sector).
Occupation Description
Early childhood staff may work in a range of services such as family day care, long day care, preschools/kindergartens and outside school hours care.
Early Childhood educators may perform the following tasks:
- Plan and implement educational programs
- Promote children’s development in key areas such as language, motor skills, emotional regulation and social interaction
- Provide play-based learning activities that stimulate curiosity and problem-solving
- Supervise children at all times to ensure their physical and emotional safety
- Follow all workplace policies including health and hygiene procedures, child protection, privacy and mandatory reporting requirements
- Build secure, respectful relationships with children
- Collaborate with families to understand children’s needs and values
- Keep accurate records of children’s development and learning
- Work as part of a team including collaboration and participating in meeting and professional development
Personal requirements
You should:
- Be calm and composed when working with children who may be emotional, energetic or challenging
- Show care and sensitivity to the needs and feelings of children and families
- Use clear communication with children and adults
- Bring enthusiasm and encouragement into the learning environment
- Able to respond to unexpected situations calmly and effectively
- Work cooperatively with other educators, children and families
- Can manage time, plan activities and keep learning spaces tidy and safe
